ChatGPT SEO: what actually changes

Most of what you already do still counts. One part of it changes completely, and that is the part worth your attention this month.

Is ChatGPT SEO different from normal SEO?

The foundations are identical: be crawlable, be fast, be clear, be trusted. What changes is the payoff. Google sends a visitor who decides between ten links. ChatGPT writes one answer and names one business, so being roughly relevant earns nothing at all.

What still counts from traditional SEO?

Crawlability, server-rendered content, internal links, page titles and descriptions, a working sitemap, and genuine mentions from other sites. None of that is wasted — assistants lean on the same signals of trust the search index already gathers.

What stops counting?

Keyword density, thin pages built to catch variations of a phrase, and volume for its own sake. Fifty near-identical service-area pages help nothing when the model only needs one page that states the facts clearly.

What is new?

Three things. Structured data stops being an optional rich-snippet trick and becomes the machine-readable copy of your claims. Answer-first writing matters more than keyword placement. And consistency across the whole web — your site, directories, profiles, press — becomes a ranking factor in its own right, because the model cross-checks.

Do AI-written pages hurt me?

The tool used to write a page is not the problem; sameness is. Text that could describe any company in your industry gives an assistant nothing specific to quote, so it quotes someone else. Your own numbers, terms and examples are what make a page worth citing, however it was drafted.

Where do I start this month?

Pick the five questions customers actually ask you. Give each one a section that opens with the answer in a single sentence and includes a checkable detail. Add Organization and FAQPage schema repeating those same facts. Then scan the page and see what moved.

Start with the scan, then fix what it finds.
